This summer “Milonga de Aviacion”... or tradicion?

In June, the walls were demolished, the parquet was finished and fresh varnished. After one practica, on Friday, when all of us were warmed up, El Rojo took us to his place to continue the dance and to open his new dance/living space. And then next Friday, and the next one, and then in July started the Leos birthday parties, which were not few in this small tango community. If one birthday was on a Monday, or Wednesday or Thursday or Friday, it didn’t matter. There was the party for sure! There were weeks when we were at El Rojo’s place from Friday to Sunday; we were going home early in the morning after a whole night of dancing, just to sleep during the day, to eat something and then to come back in the evening, when the temperature outside was cooling down and we could dance. One friend said “we were about to move to his place during the week-end”! The invitation was for everyone; anyone who was willing to dance was welcome.

We danced nights after nights until morning light. I don’t know were all that energy came from! From Ney’s workshop at the beginning of the summer, and the basic studied in classes, we had many things to work on, and our dance appetite was incredibly high: we couldn’t stop, we just couldn’t stop! It was already a habit, and “milonga” at El Rojo, was named “Milonga de Aviacion” (as the barrio name is “Aviacion”), and afterwords it became “Milonga Tradicion”! He, he, those are unforgettable days.

At mid September, after the inauguration party of the dance floor that we restored, in the attic where the classes were held, most of us still wanted to dance, so we went as usual to El Rojo. It was crowded; 6 couples were dancing and I watched them. It was a delight to see them. All were flowing with the music, without collisions, without legs thrown in the air, without ganchos, seldom boleo in a corner of the room. The night, the summer air, the music, the embrace, silhouettes, steps… that moment was unique… is hard to describe it, and the feeling is hard to touch again!

Then I realized how important was that we had danced so much. I was recently talking to my friends and we pointed out that we all had grown, there were incredible evolutions, and people who were just staying and watching in May were “crazy” dancing in September! The girls were already having a different dance, different embrace, different legs, and the boys as well, the “combinations” changed, and the musicality is the most important thing. The open embrace was rarely seen, or maybe used just for seconds into a turn, and then closed again. It seemed like it was unreal. We were playing, we were looking at videos observing things and trying to do them, we were discovering things, each of us was doing and discovering different things, each of us liked different things, we were showing certain sequences of steps and we discussed them… “Show me that one!... But, this one, have you seen it?… can you do this one?... But how do you do this one?... How I do here?... Let’s do this one once again… wait, I don’t understand this one… no, no I can’t do it… yes, yes, something like that… El Rojo stop laughing I can’t here the music!...” …. at El Rojo at 4 o’clock in the morning, during the class break and practica break, on the corridors, anywhere we were practicing many things… we were killing our “teach” with all kind of things… whenever, wherever. We were free.

It was summer, it was hot, my feet were killing me as they were bloating, but I didn’t give up, I took a break, put my feet into the water or on a chair and I started again. I don’t know what happened to all of us this summer, as somebody plugged us, forgot us plugged, and remembered to push the “off” button only late September!

El Rojo, thank you! You cannot imagine what a great thing you did for all of us. We would grow up without you anyway, but that was much faster and 1000 times, more fun!

Somebody had the idea to give him a present to thank him for all the “milongas” during the summer. We thought a nice pair of shoes from Buenos Aires will make him rise from his chair and will make him dance not only milonga! We’ve spoke with Passion Shoes and we surprised him at one practica and made him try and choose a pair of shoes. The photos and the expression on his face speak for themselves…

Vara asta milonga de aviacion... sau tradicion?

In iunie, peretii erau dati jos, parchetul era pus si proaspat lacuit.

He, he, zile memorabile.

Era o adevarata placere sa-i privesti.
